Learn To Row

Every year ASRA runs a number of Learn To Row weeks during the school summer holidays.  We invite applications from young people in, or about to enter, secondary education.

Our Scottish Rowing qualified coaches are insured and fully disclosed and we provide the facilities and equipment required for newcomers to safely learn about the sport.  Our current members are also actively involved, so there is always someone experienced in a boat.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.  The courses cost £60.

Our programme for 2026:

Your athlete will need a snack and a water bottle each day. As rowing is a demanding sport it is important to keep energy levels topped up and to remain hydrated throughout. You will need basic outdoor PE kit to take part. It is important to pack enough kit for two separate outdoor sessions a day and a light waterproof in the event of rain. A change of socks is important as they can get wet whilst getting in and out of the boats. Obviously, the weather can be very varied, so please pack accordingly.

Typical LTR programme:

All those who take part in a Learn To Row week gain club membership until the start of the new season (September) giving them access to training sessions and a taste of what to expect if they want to join ASRA.
